The Campaign for Glendon is a grassroots initiative of concerned faculty, students, staff, alumni, and neighbours who have come together with one goal: to stop the proposal to shutter Glendon as a faculty and move it from its home campus to York University’s Keele campus.
Why it matters
Glendon is unique: a bilingual home for liberal-arts education — a small, close-knit campus where students learn in English and in French, on a human scale, in the middle of one of Toronto’s most beautiful green spaces. York is proposing to dissolve Glendon as a faculty, ending its bilingual liberal arts programs, and to terminate Glendon’s presence at its campus at Bayview and Lawrence. Instead, York proposes that Glendon should exist simply as a college promoting French-language courses at the Keele campus, with no programs of its own. Dissolving the faculty and moving what remains to the Keele campus would not relocate the experience; it would end it.
What we do
We are mobilizing to oppose York’s plan and to urge York to instead invest in properly marketing and revitalizing Glendon at its current campus. We share accurate information about the proposal and what it would mean for every part of the Glendon community. We coordinate collective actions and we support students, faculty, staff, and alumni in organizing their own initiatives.
Who we are
We are a group of concerned professors who teach at Glendon, working in coordination with students, staff, alumni and community members.
